Team Rob Roy returns.
I am sure Roy will give a good account of our trip in the newsletter but here is a brief update.
- The weather, though colder than home was “foine” most days, and when it wasn’t it changed half an hour later. Also the holiday house had central heating which you could direct to the bedroom or the bathroom – neato!
- There are literally no fish at all at Boat Harbour that we could see
- Roy managed to catch 3 species of fish in one session 2 brook trout, a rainbow trout, and a redfin- but never did get a brown (the most common trout of all). However he had a good guide who lent him the Celta lure and told him where to cast.
- The Australian Salmon (Kahawai) session in Georges Bay, St Helens on the East Coast was sensational. These fish are the same size range as Tailor but pull harder - we got probably a dozen salmon each on almost any lure or fly chucked in the water, up to about 2 or 3 kilos. At one stage I was burning a soft plastic along the surface as 3 Salmon tried to belt it, and the other guy in the boat was dragging his fly along the surface until the inevitable double hook up. We literally left them biting, it was the best saltwater fly and lure session I have had for a long while.
-Roy showed everyone how to catch a kilo plus bream on a Queensland lure, while the rest of us got frustrated with schools of big bream sitting right up in snags like bass, but not taking.
-The guy playing bagpipes

as we fished at dusk was a nice touch
