PostSubject: Surface going off on local creek after work   Fri Oct 23, 2009 8:27 am

Fished a local creek yesterday afternoon, there was some activity from small baitfish on the surface, so I went straight to surface lures.
Had some excellent action, form half a dozen fish, but only one hook up that buried itself in weeds and bricked me. The smashes off the top were off the scale, 3 and 4 hits per retreive.
One time i was using a light weight home made popper and the bass hit from below and threw the lure up in the air and it landed 4 metres away.
i was thinking i might as well use a hookless lure, cos getting the surface smashes was a lot of fun in itself.
with these hot days coming up it would be well worth cheching Robina in the late arvo for some similar action

scored some fish again tonight, I saw what I thought were small bait fish working
in the lily pads. when i chucked a popper in there and worked it through the gaps I got smashed up
by a 42 cm bass. it was on then and I scored another 20 surface hits although only one more hookup
which I dropped after a hard fight around the lily stems. Lure was a simple home made tube popper

"Simple" refers to the skill of the lure maker. the results are all in the way you use it as in other areas of life.

"man-up" Rob. If it works it works, end of story. A 40 cm bass on a "rob-pop" is as good as, and probably more satisfying than, a 40 cm bass on a $30 eco-gear popper.
