With the end of school holidays looming, Jess agreed to come for a fish with me last Friday. Not impressed with getting out of bed early- not a morning person - & even less impressed when I switched the radio to Boonah Community Radio FM100.1, to pick up Doris Day singing "Take me back to the Blaaaack Hills the Black Hills of Dakota", even less impressed when I started singing along- I guess she was upset that she didn't know the words. Two other boats already on the water and with a gentle gale force wind blowing down the dam. Perfect launching weather. Went into the first bay up the dam for a few hits but no connects. Heaps of cabomba & because of that we moved on, plus the wind had changed & was now blowing into the bay. TBy the time we reached the next bay the wind had dropped, went to the back of the bay & cast into the floating carpet of " duck weed". As in past weeks picked up a few in these areas. (I have a picture of this Roy in my camera). Further up the dam, again working the bays( as the Pointro skiiers who were in the house were now on the water) picked up a few more in between the clumps of weed. Did I mention the wind? Right on cue it started again so up to the top of the dam. Once we settled again, Jess pulled out her pillow (from her bed) which was fine as she was still in her PJ's & went to sleep for an our or so. Only electric power for a while now. A million casts later and no hits I confirmed with another boat that the fish were hiding elsewhere. It is amazing that the top end of the dam has been dry for years but that bloody weed is everywhere. Used my Penn Pin Point 6'6" spinning rod for the first time. Teamd with a Daiwa Laguna 2000 it threw the TN60a mile. Finally Her Majesty awoke & we were able to head back down the dam. Why, do skiiers have to come into every bay when they have the whole dam to play in? Up to the aby near the ski club for teh biggest fish of the day 37cm. (Have a picture of Jess holding it Roy- its in my camera) Forgot to mention by this stage Jess had decided it would be better if she drove the boat.(scary stuff). All in all a great day, very glad Jess was there as the wind had strengthen again & really needed two to retrieve the boat. On the way home I believe Jess had mellowed as she didn't keep turning the radio down, at least not until she could pick up another station.
Al, try one of those Penns to go with that Symetre you stole from Rob.
