On a warm still night a few years ago, I was sitting on the bank of one of our local creeks with a mate after dark & we'd been casting for an hr or two when we decided take a break & have a beer.
He had his rod tip hanging over a section of virtical bank & lure about 6" above the water at our feet, when this monster came up out of the water, SMASHED the lure mid air & subsequentially took off with his rod & all.
After I did a quick survey of the situation & a check of the undies, old mates in the water after his rod, now it's dark & he's done a flying entry into uncharted waters & is now reaching in & around a submerged log,
I'm rolling around on the bank in a fit of laughter!!!!
He got the rod back but not the lure or fish.
You Gotta love the hardy little Australian Bass!!
Over the years, Iv'e had so many good laughs whilst fishing for Bass, I just wish I could remember them all, like another mate falling out of his canoe 3 times in still water within the space of 20Mins, (I think he may have had an ear problem)
For me, the real essence of Bass fishing is being on a quiet little creek on just on dusk, piece & quiet, calm & dwindeling light when all you can hear is the crickets, the birds settling down to roost & the sound of your Jitterbug paddeling away in the darkness then.....WHACK....CRASH....ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ,
been doin it for years & that surface strike still scares the sh#t out of me when I'm not ready for it.
Cheers, Mick.
