Finally, after a few months of planning, the day had come for me to make the 4 hour drive to the meeting point. What better location to start our journey then just upstream from the Clarence/Mann River junction. This wasnt where we were fishing, but a good friend lives there (Hi Dan Frogan :snic: ) and it was a good chance to catch up and relax for the afternoon. A few laughs were had and rough plans were made for the week that lay ahead.

Fished a local creek yesterday afternoon, there was some activity from small baitfish on the surface, so I went straight to surface lures.

Had some excellent action, form half a dozen fish, but only one hook up that buried itself in weeds and bricked me. The smashes off the top were off the scale, 3 and 4 hits per retreive.

One time i was using a light weight home made popper and the bass hit from below and threw the lure up in the air and it landed 4 metres away.

i was thinking i might ...

Did a quick trip to Maroon yesterday & left before the storm. All the weed beds & submerged trees are covered in that "snot" weed-algae. Even on retrievs in seemingly clear water resulted in the lure coming back covered. Did pick up a nice 42cm Yella that burried itself in the weed on its initial run. Very very fat. Also had fun with some small schools of what looked like spangles, chasing soft plastics but no hook ups. A few small bass but no size.

I went for a (easy) hike up one of my local creeks yesterday. It was a very warm morning, and I followed it up for a couple of kilometres.

All the while I was hoping that the semi tidal water would turn into a secret bass backwater or something.

- there are some small bass in the next creek south. The size of the bream improved as I went upstream from 20 cm to maybe 25cm!

So it was kinda fun, any log or stream obstruction would have the bream streak out and follow.

I would let the lure ...

Jaime and I hit Clear Island Waters this morning...An early start seen us on the water by 6am and after coming through the lock we discovered we werent the only ones with an early start in mind. There were a few boats on the water so we went looking for quieter water. We ducked up into an area where I doubt many people would find themselves, and managed a few hits, a few rats and I scored the first fish of the season off the top...only a rat (high 20s')...but still on the surface!

Fast forward to 10.00pm at the Weslet Hospital when I finally got away. No fishing on wednesday as too tired to get up. Mum then had the audacity ( the next day) of saying she had a week heart while I pointed out I missed out on going fishing. Doesn'thold much credence I ...

With my holidays quickly running out, I decided to hit Hinze Dam for an early morning mission...Along for the ride was a (for the time being) mystery guest. We hit the water just before 4am and headed towards our starting point. Approx 30 minutes later, we had arrived started flicking at the bankside submerged grass.

I was using a Water Mocason, while my mystery partner in crime went ol' school with a Tiny Torpedo. The first 20 minutes or so produced squat, and I began thinking that Hinze ...

thanks for passing on the kayak, Roy. I took it for a paddle in my local canal this morning.

The good news is it is stable and light, and easy to carry. After 30 minutes paddling the north easterly wind

sprung up to about 20 knots so i could try it out against the wind (gee thanks), however it wasnt too bad.

i trolled a Slider grub on the way back, and got 3 hook ups from Tarpon.

Those things hit many times harder than a bass and put on a few good jumps for me before

I dropped them. ...

The last fish measured in at 68cm...but its dead now, just like the rest of them.

P.S The video goes for just over 9mins, but just over 4mins of that is devoted to the last fish...68cm of introduced (now dead) European Carp.

Got an unexpected leave pass on Saturday, as Kerry was working that morning, so went to Col Wiley park for a flick during business hours.

there is now a rough stone ramp although not positioned vey well as you have to reverse across the footpath at a slight horizontal angle.

water was a bit brown so I headed upstream hoping for clearer water. I persisted with the fly rod for about an hour without success, then switched to a small diving shad type lure Finally got a small bass from edge ...

Have you ever had on those days?..A day that will stick in your long term memory no matter how hard old age tries to shake it loose. Well, I had one yesterday!

It started when I arrived at my launching site and began unpacking...Dang! no cameras! I had forgotten both the still and video cameras, even though they were both on the table next to my fishing gear. Bugger! But these things happen, so I slid the yak into the river and began the paddle upstream.

Upon closer inspection I realised ...

With bubs out in the real world and life returning to normality, it was time to load the Yak and go for a paddle down a thin blue line...The Bass Gods know how much I have missed it .

This was the first real chance I have had to give the electric motor a run. The launch site was chosen, which turned out to be a first for me, as I have never launched at this spot. The spot in question is easy to launch, but it lays in tidal water. But I was feeling optimistic.

Today was a flex day, so off to Maroon. GT wsa supposed to have come- you put it in your diary remember.

The water level is up again, I estimate another 2-3 feet & it will be up to the car park.

Tried a few of the bays on the way up the dam, a few hits but no connections. Went into the bay on the right hand side just before you go into the sticks and pulled 3 bass all under 30 & then got busted off!!!

(bye to Jackall No 1) Up through the sticks to where I got my yellas & bass ...

With the last remaining flood waters still gently flowing, paddling was made easier as I headed off for the afternoon on the river. Heading down stream from Cedar Ck bridge towards the weir. I dont know what I wanted to do most, chase Bass, or see how much the river had changed after the flood. Well, I managed to do both!

The first Bass came about 15mins into the trip, which was a promising sign of things to come. By no means a monster, but it wasnt the smallest fish to be caught. ...

With January quickly getting away & the boat not put in the water for the new year as yet I decided I had better take the day off & go fishing at Maroon.

WOW is the water ever up. To give you some idea how much

According to the sounder the tip of the island is now under 9 feet of water.

You now actually launch from a concrete ramp.

The water is up to the ramp at the ski camp across from the main ramp.

The water at the beginning of the trees is 30ft deep.

The water is way past ...

Team RobRoy fished Hinze on Saturday - for one fish There is a lot of debris in the dam - logs, broken off trees, stumps fence posts and a stack of man made rubbish. We had a bit of fun with a red frisbee we found - yes, the fishing was that slow. Paddled through a couple of debris/log jams just to see if we could.

The top ramp is slightly underwater! you can still launch from the road but you have to navigate through some rubbish.

Pretty amazing just how much has washed into the ...

Big Bruisers

Hi Guys,

Just got back from a few days up river. The fish were not thick but what they lacked in quantity, they made up for in quailty.

Here's a couple of decent fish that were silly enough to fall for our tricks...

Skinny made his annual pilgrimage to the Northern Rivers and managed to pull in some honkers. We decided to pull the pin a bit early because the weather from South East QLD was starting to make it's presence felt.

Cheers Graeme

Chris and I just spent the day at Lake Maroon...with the weather being unpredictable at best, we crossed our fingers and started casting. Fishing up near the island proved slow, so we headed (blown) down the bank in front on the pointro house. I had a few hits on spinnerbait and soft plastic, but nothing found the hooks.

We finally cracked the area in which they were holding and the fish started coming in. All fish were caught on spinnerbait, with black/red being the favoured colour. The ...
